Childhood... -''Those were the days!'' a loud sigh...,,,,
Those were the days of screaming, playing and laughing, days of innocent stories, ungrounded fears and imagination, creativity. As I am getting older I started to realize how long the road is....
My childhood was predominantly in the outdoors with mango, neem, coconut trees and plants, open grounds, dragonflies, chirping birds...nothing less than a fantasy, right?
I remember chasing and hiding behind a wall, I used to run a lot for no reason...hahaha!
I really enjoyed riding my bicycle BSA, I had the freedom to go anywhere, anytime on my own power was really fun.. it was a beautiful Blue cycle but which was stolen.
At school, I was acting like I was a God when I become the class leader, write the names of the students who talk in class, in the corner of the blackboard. Everything felt different, brighter and every new day was more interesting than the last.
I am happy to share some of the coolest things from the 80' & 90's India which would trip down the memory track.
Frooti ...it was the best mango drink and vintage brand to have...all so slurpy till the very last drop.
Shilpa Bindi !!! I can never get tired of this brand and I am still using the same until today.
Inland Letter Card - India Post ... I never saw this again, in the era of smartphones and emails, one hardly thinks of Inland letters and postcards for sending a message across..it was the cheapest ways of communication - 50 paisa
The dot game... A quiet, two-person game played on paper..I know the right thing to do in class is study, study, study but for a person like me it is simply impossible to concentrate especially Maths and History class. I remember poking my friend next to me to play this game.
A game of FLAMES…. the desperate urge to know what a girl or a guy means to us...what they are to us, depending on this silly game.
F-Friendship, L-Love, A-Adorable, M Marriage, E-Enemy and S-Sister(Brother)/Sweetheart.
Walkman & Cassettes.... do you remember these sweet old things? They may be old fashioned, but I guess many old cars still have working cassette players, just like many around the world a Sony Walkman held a great importance in my life, too. The Walkman was my companion.
LOL ; No comments !!!
Mittai....Kayiru mittai,Thaen mittai, Burfi,Coconut Biscuit,Pori Urundai,Kamarkat,Ilandhapazham,
Orange Mittai is one amongst the nostalgic candy for 80/90’s kids.
Nostalgic Television ....it was not easy to change channel once you mess with the knob..and no remote !!!
TV aerial or TV antennas...Have you lost your signal or TV channels? Poor picture quality? Check the antenna position and try adjusting it if you still find the signals..hahaha
Cycle Rickshaw...Have you ever had a cycle rickshaw ride? A popular mode of transport- a three-wheeled passenger cart, it took one half hour to reach school...that was such a fun !
Rickshaw originates from the Japanese word jinrikisha which literally means "human-powered vehicle"
Nostalgic – Missing Film Cameras...it is a magic when the photographs appeared on the paper.. it truly was a feeling of satisfaction which the digital prints do not impart.
Colored Chicks....I loved those little fellas' ..they look so cute like a tiny fluffy soft balls scurrying about in huge baskets...it was 1 rupee per pair.
Fresh Tamarind fruits....as I write about this my mouth is filled with saliva.. it is a twist in the tongue and enter face squeezes to the sweet and sour taste of this delicious fruit.
I can go on and on...it was these simple things that made me happy and alive and cheerful which remain embedded in my soul and I call them my childhood golden days memories. I have plenty of them and each time I cherish them, I really wish I could go back in time and relive those memories.
“If you see me sitting on a chair and lost; I might be lost in the lanes of my childhood and revisiting my innocence” - Unknown
